The favorite part of my day was… Oobleck in 3rd grade! Day 2 of classified appreciation week highlights three rockstars in our school community in Kim, Jen, and Tionie. They quite literally serve the entire school community. From students to staff to families, & the larger community, if you’ve been in contact with our school then you’ve been fortunate to have been helped by them. They consistently embody an attitude of service & are the consummate professionals. With a combined 44 years of service in our district, we are all wise to look to them as steady examples of dedication & commitment. Worth striving to emulate. Thank you ladies! The favorite part of my day was… Kicking off classified staff appreciation week & seeing all the notes of thanks posted in acknowledgment of the value our classified staff bring to our school community…Day 1 highlights our classroom Instructional Assistants - Tina, Tami, Betsy, Brooklyn, Jason, & Trisha - we are so thankful for all of your contributions to the classrooms, supervision of all students, & support you provide to teachers! You are such an instrumental part of our school’s functioning & our students’ successes. The favorite part of my day was… Working on professional learning conference requests & plans from three of our more veteran teachers. Mrs. Gunderson, Ms. Jones, & Mrs. Wambold are three great examples of professionals who are continuously striving to improve in their profession…This is what makes us better. Better meaning more effective, all the while setting positive examples for our students… And being copied on a handful of positive emails sent to families from Mrs. Miller, as she recognized individuals & groups of students for their commendable efforts, attitude, & work ethic in her classroom. The “job”, the drive is big, & can be overwhelming as we all know the goal is 100%. We aren’t “done” until we know 100% of our students are successful. And yet while we must think big, we must focus small. It takes a disciplined mind, among distractions of all sorts, to focus on the daily positive actions that create the positive momentum that keeps us moving forward. 1% better each day amounts to big gains in the long run. The favorite part of my day was… Starting the morning being reminded by Kindergarten that today is our 100th day of school…& finishing the day watching our boys basketball team take care of business in round one of the state playoffs. The favorite part of my day was… Hearing about the successes of the FFA contest…not only our 2nd place & state qualifying Parli Pro team, but also hosting an event for the first time & the Wasco Event Center bragging publicly about our students, advisor & program. The value Mr. Swenson brings to our students’ lives in helping develop & shape the leaders of our future cannot be underscored enough. The favorite part of my day was… Hearing day 1 auditions & rehearsals for the Snow White production scheduled for this Friday & Saturday…seeing the district basketball championship trophy & net brought into the main office…& being involved in multiple conversations that reminded me of the importance of taking care of our staff & being present with the person in front of you. Buses are leaving school 10 minutes late. They will be arriving at stops 10 minutes later than normal.

Due to road conditions, the middle school and high school basketball games have been canceled as well as all practices and after school activities. Stay warm and drive safe!

Thursday February 13, 2024 2-Hour Delay Due to tomorrow morning’s forecasted winter conditions & in an attempt to allow more planning time for families, Sherman County School will be on a 2 hour delay tomorrow morning, Thursday February 13th. We will evaluate road & weather conditions in the morning for any necessary updates. Our first priority continues to be the safety of students, staff, and families. Thank you for your understanding.

Friday February 7, 2024 2-Hour Delay Due to winter road conditions throughout the county, Sherman County School will be on a 2-hour delay. Buses will pick up students 2 hours later than their usual time. We appreciate your understanding in prioritizing student and staff safety.

The favorite part of my day was… Visiting our greenhouse with Mr. Swenson & seeing what’s in the works for the upcoming plant sale…having a mid-year goals conversation with a teacher…& hearing from a parent who is proud & impressed by how well their elementary students are reading. Due to concerns about road conditions for the traveling team, middle school games against South Wasco have been canceled. Middle School practices have also been canceled.

The Sherman County School District Board of Directors will hold a Regular Board Meeting on Monday, February 10, 2025 in the Sherman County Public/School Library Program Room. An executive session in accordance with ORS 192.660(2)(i) will take place at 6:00 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at approximately 6:30 p.m. Please find the agenda under the school board section of the website.

The favorite part of my day was… Seeing our high school leadership students visiting our first grade classroom & helping out during math time…& handing out Husky Market gift certificates to high school students who have demonstrated significant academic progress & growth this school year.
