The favorite part of my day was… Observing two of our Instructional Assistants working with our students in small groups on their reading skills. These two have a heart for ALL students & it’s evident every day as they hold students positively accountable everywhere from in the cafeteria to the playground to the classroom. They have high expectations for students & they consistently strive to provide the academic support to help all succeed. Principal Fall #EveryKid.EveryDay.100%.

The favorite part of my day was… 1. Watching 7th grader Gunner happily help 1st grader Max… 2. Seeing the custodians receive a wooden plaque of appreciation made in-house by Mr. Swenson. 3. Seeing staff’s reactions when Tionie announced that every staff member will be receiving a turkey this month. Principal Fall #EveryKid.EveryDay.100%.

Winter weather is in the forecast! In the event we need to alter the school day or bus routes, we will communicate through the school alert system. Notices will also be reported to FlastAlert.net, local tv and radio stations. Oftentimes representatives from North Wasco School District Transportation will personally contact families impacted by alternate bus routes. The favorite part of my day was… The K-6 quarter 1 awards assembly & hearing teachers & coaches acknowledge students’ academic, social, behavioral, & extracurricular progress & accomplishments. Principal Fall #EveryKid.EveryDay.100%.

The favorite part of my day was… Watching some of our youngest students look up to their TA in PE class today. Yet another benefit of our K-12 building…having built-in mentors & role models for our young students & leadership building opportunities for our older students. The favorite part of my day was… Working one on one with students. Whether they’re so small their feet dangle from the chair when seated or they’re taller than me, the reward is the same. Getting to know kids well enough by listening to them helps us understand where their behaviors or choices come from which can then help us teach them how to make better choices the next time around. Teaching accountability, responsibility and critical thinking skills is far more rewarding than teaching compliance. Also really rewarding is how the need to depend on compliance decreases significantly when we take the time to build the trust with students by listening. It’s amazing how much more effective our teaching is when we know what skill to address and the root of the problem to solve. Academics or behavior/social skills. Teaching is teaching. The favorite part of my day was… The costume parade & our staff dressing up as Waldo. Kids kept asking which staff member was the “real Waldo”. Principal Fall #EveryKid.EveryDay.100%.

Tonight! At the Wasco school & put on by the PTO, Boosters, and Sherman Kids Zone.

The favorite part of my day was… Seeing the staff collaborating throughout the Sheltered Instruction professional learning session this afternoon. I have a deep sense of appreciation & respect for professionals with a mindset to continue to strive to improve their skill sets. Teachers sharing instructional strategies with each other among many moments of laughter was a great way to end the week. Principal Fall #EveryKid.EveryDay.100%.

The favorite part of my day was… That it was Thank You Thursday. This was our 2nd go at this new monthly tradition. It is so enjoyable to read the hilarious & thoughtful & endearing messages written by students kindergarten through 12th grade. It’s also nice to read the comments written by staff members expressing appreciation to their colleagues. The icing on the cake this evening was getting an email from a parent saying they “wanted to participate in Thank You Thursday” & they proceeded to express gratitude for a teacher who had gone above & beyond for their student today. The favorite part of my day was… Having our all-school send off as our Varsity Volleyball team headed to their state playoff game earlier today. Principal Fall #EveryKid.EveryDay.100%.

The favorite part of my day was… Beginning to look deeply at our programming to see if what we’re doing currently is serving each student to the best of our capabilities given our human capital, current curriculum & materials, & scheduling. It may not seem like the most exciting work but it’s so motivating & inspiring to look at student performance data & then formulate a plan knowing the next steps will produce better outcomes for kids. The favorite part of my day was… Learning that Sophie made All State Band…AGAIN!! And watching a state playoff volleyball practice. Something special about post-season practice energy… Principal Fall #EveryKid.EveryDay.100%.

The favorite part of my day was… Stepping into 2nd grade to help the class continue their choral read so Miss Nelson could step out to have a conference with a student. Reading skills, relationship building, and problem solving all happening at once. Principal Fall #EveryKid.EveryDay.100%.

The 5/6 Football game in Lyle/Wishram has been canceled due to air quality. Players are returning to school and will ride the 3:20 dismissal bus home.

The favorite part of my day was… These two right here. The glue of the school. In any & every successful, high functioning team or organization you’ll find individuals who embrace their role. They understand how their daily contributions & attitudes are what make the success of the whole, possible. These two embody just that.
